This resto-modded 1980
GL1100 started life as your run of the mill Goldwing. It’s had its fairings ripped off, given a custom paint job, and it wears a custom set of carbs.
The owner needed it gone to pay for car repairs and I was happy to help. :) It just needs a tach cable and some turn indicators. The wiring already exists, I just need to pick out the style of housings I want. All this for the price of $950. I’m going to cherish it forever.

Yes. A local shop put up a ‘70s Goldwing that had been left there for $600 while I was on vacation. So much want.

Actually I had to pick up my Blast from my girlfriend’s apartment so I could sell it. That was us racing back to her place! I just held onto the trailer so I could get the winger today. ;)

Wait - tell me again how long you’ve had your license, and how many bikes you’ve bought?? I’m noticing an accelerating tend towards bigger bikes, too...
Kidding aside though, that thing is gorgeous!! Congrats!

That’s a really cool bike and a steal if a deal fir twice the price

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a naked Goldwing. Does the bike have more hp?
![]() 08/20/2018 at 22:01 |

Wow! That escalated quickly!
You're gonna let me ride one of these cruisers, right?

GL1000 (first gen) Wings were naked, GL1100s (second gen) were available either way, and the GL1200 (third gen) had a one year only naked option. Then along came the GL1500, and they’ve been two wheeled cars ever since.
I’ve owned a ‘77 GL1000 and an ‘86 GL1200 Aspencade. They're awesome bikes!

You’re like a magnet for these bargains, well-bought.

One big
word of cation about
G
oldwings
. They are very heavy, and its almost
impossible to remove your leg,
if the bike lands on it. So you really want the bars that ap
pear to have been removed, especially
if you can’t bench press at least
3
00 lbs.
![]() 08/20/2018 at 22:42 |

Oh it has bars, thankfully! They're just painted black like the rest of the underbody. Yeah, she's super heavy, yet somehow it feels lighter than my GS850?

I may or may not perpetually keep a Craigslist window open at all times at work. lol
![]() 08/20/2018 at 23:14 |

Can't say if it has more HP, however it does run like a dream!
![]() 08/20/2018 at 23:16 |

Yup yup! PO thinks it started life with fairings, though I’m sure checking the VIN should confirm or deny that, right?
I've always had a fascination with the Wing, but I wasn't so hot about full fairings. Boom, this bike solves that conundrum!

Let’s see...
Legal as of nearly three months ago, have purchased four motorcycles, two scooters, then sold three of them. Displacement on the daily bikes went from 250cc-500cc to 850cc-1100cc.
Man I better be careful. :O

You know me! I have to pounce or forever regret not making a move. lol
And h eck yea! :)

Alright!
![]() 08/20/2018 at 23:48 |

I never liked them either until I ride with them! 10/10 would Aspencade again!
Check out NGWclub.com and Randaak’s Cycle Shack for tons of good info. It’s been 4 years since I sold mine, so I’ve forgotten a ton.
Also, replace your timing belts!
![]() 08/21/2018 at 02:23 |

At the rate you're increasing displacement, it'll be what, like another 3 months before you have an LS powered boss hoss?
![]() 08/21/2018 at 06:04 |
|
How does displacement and power of that motorcycle compare to that of your towing vehicle?
![]() 08/21/2018 at 11:58 |

I love naked Gold Wings. Such neat bikes.
I’ve been working on fixing my bike and making it actually useful which may have me keeping it for a bit.
![]() 08/21/2018 at 12:04 |
|
Well...uh...
Both of the bikes I bought have more power, more torque, and a higher cylinder count than the vehicle that towed them home.

And it’s hitting “Do I really want to pay to store this over the winter...” time in Illinois. I mean, it’s still early into that time, but it’s getting there.

Me in October : “I got this running Hayabusa 1300 for $500! ”
![]() 08/22/2018 at 22:41 |

That deal would definitely end up in David Tracy status. “Once I got it home, I realized it had miss-matched forks that were both bent, the rear axle was twisted, and the chain was actually three different chains which didn’t really fit the sprockets.”
